Chaplain's Notes

A warm welcome to all today especially if you are a visitor. We trust you enjoy your stay in Brussels and worshipping with us today. Please join us after the morning service for coffee and drinks in the side aisle. You are most welcome to stay around and talk. If you are new please make yourself known especially to the clergy; we would be grateful if you would fill in a yellow card at the Welcome Table.

War I fear very much that, by the time you read these notes, there will be war in Iraq. It is a time of real concern for us all as to what it might or could unleash. I therefore refer the congregation to Psalm 46 which reminds us that 'the Lord Almighty is with us, the God of Jacob is our fortress'. We fear where it all might lead but we trust in God's eternal word. 'When the earth and all its people quake, it is I who hold its pillars firm.' Psalm 75.3

The Archbishop of Canterbury The congregation is welcome to read the exchange of correspondence between the Archbishop and myself on the notice board under the arch.

AGM The Annual General Meeting takes place tomorrow (Monday) at 20.00 preceded by drinks. All are welcome but please remember only those on the electoral roll can vote. Please tender your apologies if you are unable to be present.

Our Lent series, focusing as it does on three issues which the Archbishop of Canterbury will have to face, continues this Wednesday and will tackle Sexuality with particular regard to same sex relationships. David Fieldsend of Care will chair it for us. We shall listen to a short tape by Martin Hallett and we urge you to bring paper and pen with you to make notes. Discussion will follow. Church House, 20.00.

Lent Series (last one, please note different day):

Tuesday 8 April: Environmental Issues. Tape by Peter Harris (A Rocha). (Chair: Annali Bamber-Jones, A Rocha)                  Nigel Walker

Creative help wanted We have permission to write for the weekly Brussels Bulletin publication. Naturally there is a need for human-interest stories and topics of wider interest than just the church routine. If you have ever had journalistic, or creative writing experience we need your help please. Please consider volunteering for either authoring occasional articles up to 300 words (see the Bulletin for style), or for an editorial board to help select articles written for publication. Please respond to the Church Office, giving contact details and experience. We would also value an example of your writing, perhaps you might submit an article. (Please submit any articles as copies, preferably in software form. We will contact you when adequate numbers are found. The intention is to develop a regular appearance by Holy Trinity and to improve our profile.

'Alternatives', the pregnancy crisis centre in Brussels, would appreciate gifts of buggies / push-chairs, in good condition. Also bedding suitable for carry-cots, and 'kangaroo pouch style' carriers for young babies.  If you have anything suitable, please contact the Alternatives office on 02/737 91 32 or speak to Catherine Pennington (02/731 27 37).

The Mission focus for March is Mission East. All loose change from the plate collections taken at the 4 services today will go towards their work.

YOUTH AND CHILDREN

Thank you so much for two video recorders and one TV kindly given by individuals.  Unfortunately the TV cannot be persuaded to produce sound, perhaps because it is from UK.  Can anyone help us with this?  We need it only for showing videos to groups of children.  In the meantime we would like to appeal for another TV if anyone has a spare one.  Please contact Mary on 02/770 77 15.
