Holy Trinity Newsletter

26 October 2003

A warm welcome to all today especially if you are a visitor. We trust you enjoy your stay in Brussels and worship with us today. Please join us after the morning service for coffee and drinks in the side aisle. You are most welcome to stay around and talk. If you are new please make yourself known especially to the clergy; we would be grateful if you would fill in a card at the Welcome Table.

CHAPLAIN'S NOTES

The Mission is now just two weeks away. Michael Cassidy and all his team arrive on Friday 7 November in time for the Pastors and Elders meeting the following morning at the Christian Center, Rhode-St-Gense. We are delighted to welcome these evangelists from different countries in Africa and trust that the relationships that develop will be fruitful in every possible way.

This mission is a wonderful opportunity to get involved (details of events on the back of this Newsletter including guest services at HTB), to reflect on people you might wish to invite and then contact them. I have discovered that the writing of a letter can be a most effective way of drawing people's attention to a mission or event organised by Christians. Choose any one of the events on the back that you would consider most appropriate for your guest and then personally take or meet them at the venue.

The Service at 10.30 on the 16 November will be a Guest Service with Gottfried Osei-Mensah as the preacher. Details about him are in the new leaflet at the back of the church. He is President of African Enterprise founded by Michael Cassidy in 1962 to evangelise the cities of Africa. Communion on that day will be at 09.00.

Please pray for this event that the Lord will bless our endeavours and that he will meet all our commitments. For further information, you may go to www.go2c.be (under Places of Worship). You will find invitations to these events at the back of the church.

OPPORTUNITIES

Pray in the church! 3 of us have been meeting in the church building about once a month over the past year to pray for anything connected with HTB (clergy, congregation, meetings etc) and for ourselves. Would you like to join us or be part of a similar group?  You can pray in song, dance, words, silence; you can take a particular topic (worship, Mission Hope, Borze, a mission group, the next Sunday's worship) or be open from one meeting to the next.  Our concern is to see the church building being used more during the week (mornings and lunchtimes).  Of course you can pray anywhere, any time, but if the idea of using this building in this way interests you, please contact me, Ann Milton, on 02/772 47 04

Ecumenism and Peace (Oecumnisme et Paix) celebrates its 10th anniversary with an Ecumenical Service in the Eglise Royale Ste-Marie, Place de la Reine, Schaerbeek at 16.00 today. The service will be in French, English and Dutch. The bishops or chairmen of the Anglican, Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant Churches in Brussels are invited to be present or represented. For access by public transport, the nearest are trams 92, 93 and 94. There is a notice in the porch.

Ramadan started this weekend, and Christians throughout the world are encouraged to pray for the Muslim world during this coming month. Pray for Christian believers who face increased persecution during Ramadan.  Pray too for the many devout Muslims who are truly seeking after God in this time of prayer and fasting, that they may come to know who Jesus really is. If you would like to be more informed in your prayers during Ramadan (and you read French), buy a copy of '30 jours de prière pour le monde musulman', price €1, from the YWAM bookshop, 21 Avenue des Celtes, near Mérode metro.

Advance notice On Friday 21 November there will be an evening of prayer for the Muslim world, plus a special focus on Sarah, who is currently working with deaf children in the Middle East. More details later, but keep the date free if you are interested.

Petronella Collon The memorial service will take place on Saturday 29 November at 13.00

Brown plastic holders for plastic coffee cups seem to be going missing.  Perhaps people are discarding them as waste.  Please don't!  Please take care to hand them in to be used again many times.

Last Bun Sunday the Explorers produced baked goodies and sold them very effectively, raising €52.48 to be sent to a Tear Fund education project in Ethiopia called Bright Sparks.  Thank you for supporting them.

The Prayer Chain welcomes requests for prayer for any situation in complete confidentiality. Please pass your request to Sue Cox 02/767 29 11 or to Ann Milton 02/772 47 04.

Room/Flat needed Christian Solidarity Worldwide is sending me a new colleague who will need somewhere to live starting from the beginning of November. She is a Christian young woman, fluent in English, Finnish and Polish and would prefer to share something reasonably priced with other young people ideally near Schuman, the European Institutions or public transport! If you know of any available rooms please contact me at annalee.stangl@tiscali.be or csw-eu@village.uunet.be
