Holy Trinity Newsletter

27 June 2004

A warm welcome to all today especially if you are a visitor. We trust you enjoy your stay in Brussels and your worship with us today. Please join us after the morning service for coffee and drinks down in the Hall. You are most welcome to stay around and talk. If you are new please make yourself known especially to the clergy; we would be grateful if you would fill in a card at the Welcome Table.

A fully staffed crèche for babies up to 2 years old, is available during the 10.30 service in the Charles Le Jeune Centre. If you would like to make use of it, an usher will show you where to go.

The flowers THIS WEEK are offered in loving memory of

MAaRTEN VAN RIJN

The mission focus for June is CARE.  See under Information below for more about the work of CARE.

CHAPLAIN’S NOTES

Welcome Daniel Steel Daniel will be dedicated at the 10.30 service this morning. It is a special day for Richard and Sally, their family and friends.

Welcome home A warm welcome to Sarah Pennington home for a spell from the Middle East. Next month we will focus on her work and she will speak at most of the services on the 11 July.

ICS Work While we are very sorry to see them go we are very pleased that Peter and Joelle Luson will be taking up an appointment with the Inter-Continental Church Society at the start of next month. Peter has been appointed Operations Manager a post in which he is very suitably qualified. Our ties are already strong with ICS (they own the church) but this will strengthen those ties a little more. We wish them God’s blessing for the future.

Move Mary and I will be moving at the end of July and will house sit the balance of our time here at the home of Peter and Joelle in Uccle. We are most grateful to Peter and Joelle for their kindness in this matter.

She will also be speaking to the St Gilles Home Group which meets at 8pm on Tuesday July 6  at Richard Steel's house, 54 rue de Lombardie, 1060 St Gilles, Tel 02 538 74 80, where all are welcome.

Please see fliers at the back of church.

INFORMATION

Rita Demoustiez sends her love to everybody and hopes to come out of hospital at the end of the week. She asks that we pray for a miracle.

Hilda Medway came out of hospital last Wednesday and is making good progress.

Appealing to anyone who took photos on the big day! We are looking for people who took photos, digital or other, during the opening on 12 June. These would be published on the website and potentially used for wider distribution (in Christian publications for instance). Please send us your souvenir shots to the Church office or to admin@htbrussels.com.

CRP Matters – Keys - It will be at least another 3 weeks for the permanent locks are fitted to doors within the Charles Le Jeune Centre and the new entrance. If you have need of a key to access the church or the hall, please contact the church office who will advise how to obtain it.

CRP – ‘Snagging list’ – Richard and I are aware of a number of areas where the contractor needs to finish off, however we need your help. Please inform myself, or the Church office if an electrical socket does not work or another thing is not yet properly operational. Although we did our best to ensure everything was in place for June 12, we know there are a few snags to sort out.                     Peter Walley

Council are gently encouraging the congregation to make one last big heave to fund the cost of the kitchen as an act of thanksgiving for the whole project which has so transformed all our buildings and made them all useable once more. During the months of June and July the fund will be open and our prayer is that we will be able to have the kitchen in place for September. We leave the matter in the hands of the congregation. Pledge forms are in the pews for those who wish to make use of them.

Charles Le Jeune Centre We would be very grateful to hear of any firms or companies changing their furniture and seeking to sell at second-hand prices - or better still giving away their previous, good quality, ‘as new’, office furnishings. We would be most happy to be informed. We still have to find items such as spare chairs and tables for the new Centre. Any pointers would be most welcome. If you know of any possible contacts, please get in touch with a member of clergy or Vicki at Church Office. Thank you!

Urgent The Translation Team needs a few more volunteers to help with the weekly translation into French of Holy Trinity’s Newsletter. This requires a regular but only occasional commitment. If you are interested and a good French speaker, please contact Vicki at Church Office.

Our Mission Focus for June is on CARE - Christian Action Research and Education.  CARE was founded by Christians in the UK in the 1970s to express Christian concern at legislators beginning to move away from the country's historic dependence on Christian values as the basis for public policy. CARE continues to be a Christian voice on public policy issues in the UK, but is also now represented here in Brussels for liaison with the EU institutions and follows the work of the UN.  It also supports a range of caring services for those suffering as a result of the decline of Christian ethics in modern society including a network of 160 crisis pregnancy counselling centres in the UK mirrored in the Alternatives centre here in Brussels.

Traditional Christian schooling A family who worship at Holy Trinity's traditional service would be pleased to hear if there are any other families in the Brussels area with Primary (and Kindergarten) aged children who might be interested in a private Christian schooling project, where children would be taught together in a church hall once a week by a qualified teacher and at home the rest of the week by their parents. The programme would be based on the serious learning of the Holy Scriptures, together with traditional Church teachings and hymns, other subjects like language and maths following on from that. Theoretically this could start in September if there were enough interest, but this is only an initial enquiry. If interested please contact James on eliane_pitts@yahoo.com (02/453 95 63).

Flowers every Sunday can be offered in thanksgiving or in memory of loved ones. Total contributions or part payment of the weekend's flowers’ costs are possible. Please contact Sue Cox on 02/767 29 11.

Are you about to leave school, leave university or take time out from university or career? Do you need thinking space to consider God's purposes and your calling? If so the West Yorkshire School of Christian Studies (near Leeds) could be the place for you. They run programmes of one month, four months or nine months. You would be able to talk to leading Christians who are active in the worlds of science, philosophy and the arts, and take up placements, sometimes paid, in Britain or overseas. Website: www.wysocs.org.uk.  E-mail: admin@wysocs.org.uk. Tel: 00 44 113 258 93 00. Information cards and prospectuses available from Mary Walker

I went to Taizé last summer and loved it: Biblical teaching, small groups, worship music, special encounters, quiet places for those who need it.  Would anyone like to join me this year?  Loving camping and speaking French helps.  11-18 July and 1-8 August. Bus organised from Brussels.  Call Machteld 02/267 80 41.

The Prayer Chain welcomes requests for prayer for any situation with complete
confidentiality. Please pass your request to Sue Cox 02/767 29 11 or cottoncox@hotmail.com or to Ann Milton 02/772 47 04.
