OUR VISION
HTB is a community within communities.

We are a Christian community, trying to find the road map for the Christian life in the 21st century, seekers who have found a multicultural home. We are a mixed fruit bowl of people, surprised to find themselves where they are, not sure where the next stop is and looking for someone to accompany them on their journey. HTB is full of people who need friendships, love and support.

But we find ourselves within other communities that challenge our self-centredness.

First, HTB is part of the international community of Brussels. That community is full of need and opportunity. Opportunity because the Brussels expatriate community has a central place not just in Europe but in the world, with business, political and other leaders in its midst whose influence flows round 5 continents. Need, to proclaim God at the centre of the EU. Need, felt by people who long for love without strings, for friendships that are real. Our experience can reinforce a community that is reluctant to acknowledge faith.

Second, we are a Christian community who have to be more than parasites on Brussels society. We have to contribute to the city and people who give us a home.

Third, we have a vocation to provide security and support for Christians from all round the world. Whatever country we pray for is probably represented by someone in our congregation. When they leave us, they take what they have learned in HTB, for good or for ill, and pass it on in church communities all round the world.

We want to open the doors of HTB so that we can contribute to the work of Christ in each of those communities. Anyone willing to encounter Jesus Christ can do so with us. We want to teach and preach the Word to deepen faith and to help people grow in Christian knowledge. We want to provide pastoral support to people in their opportunities, in their needs and in their failures. We want our worship to be a response from the heart to God’s love for humanity.

Lots of good things are happening already, but nothing is set in stone. Everything is open to be developed and renewed, provided only it helps achieve our vision.
When Peter presented the gospel to the crowd on the day of Pentecost, the effects were felt not just in Jerusalem but across many countries.

Our vision is to so present the gospel of Jesus through the community of HTB, that the effects will serve Jesus Christ in Brussels, in its international community and in the Christian church throughout the world.
